In 2001 I took a life changing trip to India where I discovered the ancient art of hand block-printing. I fell in love with the colorful block printed fabrics & before I left India I had decided I was going to produce my own brand of block-printed products. Within a month Pacific & Rose Textiles was founded and I had a new career.
Working from my California studio, my design recipe combines traditional Indian Mughal motifs and lots of fresh color within the framework of a relaxed California point of view.
I send my designs to our Jaipur workshop where skilled artisans carve the printing blocks by hand. The highlight for me is traveling to India to oversee the color mixing and sample making. After much trial & error creating samples that pass muster, we begin production which takes up to 12 weeks as master printers meticulously block-print everything by hand.
It’s a time consuming process but I feel the results are worth it. To see the “hand” of the artist – the little imperfections in block-printing that give these fabrics heart and soul, is simply magical.
